Trade war between the world's two largest economies has escalated over the last few weeks after Washington imposed punitive tariffs on Chinese products.
China remains intent on solving the current trade impasse with the U.S. but it is prepared to fight a trade war to the bitter end to safeguard its legitimate interests, the country’s ambassador to the U.K. has revealed.
The U.S. and China have been locked in a trade dispute for over a year, and last week Washington announced a 25 percent punitive tariffs on thousands of Chinese products. Xiaoming, however, warned Trump had to abandon the policy of putting Washington’s interests ahead of those of other countries. Xiaoming also argued the U.S. had chosen the path of “openness and connectivity” instead of opting to move towards “exclusion and protectionism”. He added the danger to the global economy came from countries who had no qualms in starting trade wars against their allies.
“The trade war can’t bring China down,” the People’s Daily wrote in a front-page commentary on Friday, as reported by Reuters.
