The Kansas City Chiefs need to upgrade at WR and Stefon Diggs is still a free agent. Could the team be willing to take such a big risk?
The team has two first-round picks and four in the top 74 selections, and some draft experts believe at least one of those will be used on a playmaking wide receiver with high upside. But if the team wants to go another route, it could add a pass-catcher via free agency or a trade and save its draft picks to build up its defense or revamp its offensive line.
Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report recently suggested the Chiefs should make a run at troubled free-agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who was recently released by the Patriots following Super Bowl LX.. “A Chiefs team used to deep playoff runs is coming off its first 10-loss season since a 2-14 debacle in 2012, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes is rehabbing the first major injury of his career — an ACL tear that leaves his availability for the start of the 2026 campaign in doubt.“Bringing in Stefon Diggs wouldn't be a weird move, though. The Chiefs need to add a wide receiver to a room that currently sports Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and not much else. Kansas City has also made something of a habit of bringing in veteran wide receivers who were cast off by other teams. … Right now, Kansas City's pass-catchers are more a weakness than a strength. The addition of Diggs could change that.” Signing Diggs could make Kansas City’s passing attack feared like it was back when Tyreek Hill was the team’s No. 1 WR. But the move wouldn’t come without its drawbacks.Diggs has been in legal trouble recently, and he has a reputation for being a locker room distraction from his days in Buffalo. He’s also not the same All-Pro pass-catcher he once was, and some have questioned whether he’s still a true No. 1 WR. The Chiefs are no stranger to gambling on talented-yet-polarizing players.
