The Kansas City Chiefs have released linebacker Blake Lynch from their practice squad and re-signed wide receiver Montrell Washington.

With the conclusion of the 2024-25 regular season, postseason-bound teams are actively making roster adjustments to bolster their organizational depth in preparation for the playoffs. The Kansas City Chiefs exemplify this trend, as general manager Brett Veach's recent transactions demonstrate that no move, regardless of its size, is overlooked from a weekly perspective.

According to the NFL's daily transaction wire and personnel notice, the Chiefs have released linebacker Blake Lynch from their practice squad contract. In his stead, the reigning Super Bowl champions have re-signed wide receiver Montrell Washington to the practice squad. Washington had previously been with the team prior to Week 18's game against the Denver Broncos. He played a significant role in the Sunday loss, accumulating 25 defensive snaps and another 22 (96%) on special teams. Lynch was recognized as the Chiefs' highest-graded player from the contest by Pro Football Focus, further highlighting his short-term value. barring a reunion on a futures contract, Lynch's tenure with the club appears to be at an end. Washington's return to Kansas City is unsurprising, considering he was initially cut to make room for Lynch. The former fifth-round pick logged 39 combined snaps during the previous season, securing eight punts for 61 yards and adding a 20-yard kickoff return. He was active for only one game this year, making his season debut in Week 8's victory over the Las Vegas Raiders and returning one kickoff for 14 yards.Given the strong preference special teams coordinator Dave Toub holds for Washington, his reinstatement to the team is logical. Moreover, any experience within the offensive system is an added benefit. Washington is likely to serve as an insurance policy at the end of the roster. With Lynch contributing valuable snaps in Week 18, his purpose has been fulfilled, allowing the Chiefs to continue refining their practice squad for the upcoming stretch
