For anyone who needs a Game of Thrones replacement, Apple TV+ has an excellent new option. It's been six years since the Game of Thrones ending, and although many were quick to criticize the final season, it's undoubtedly left behind a massive hole that streaming services and various franchises have desperately attempted to fill.
Listen, I've spent a lot of time searching for shows, movies, books, games — you name it — trying to find stories that feel as exciting as Game of Thrones or the A Song of Ice & Fire books. There's plenty of media available that can capture similar elements, but nothing that really fits it all into one package. Chief Of War Is A Historical Epic Starring Jason Momoa Game of Thrones was a special series, and it's difficult to find a fulfilling replacement. With that in mind, Chief of War is one of the best. Only three episodes into the series, I can already tell that it's one of the two or three most satisfying shows to fill the space GOT left behind so far, with the others being Shogun and House of the Dragon. Chief of War is a historical epic centered around the turn of the 18th century in Hawai'i, when the now-US state was a set of islands ruled by various kings and chiefs. As is often the case with such societies, these islands are ripe with warfare, political maneuvering, backstabbing, and intense family drama. The Chief of War cast is led by Game of Thrones alum Jason Momoa, who notably played Khal Drogo in season 1 before going on to have a movie star career in franchises like the DCEU and Fast & Furious, among other successes. He plays Ka'iana, a legendary Hawaiian warrior whose actions changed the course of the archipelago's history. Chief of War's first episode already includes two things Game of Thrones fans will love: a major betrayal and a massive battle sequence. The production value and acting quality are of the caliber one would expect from a seriesl ike this. Chief Of War & Game Of Thrones' Similarities Explained As someone who's re-watched Game of Thrones multiple times, I can tell when a TV series is trying to emulate its style. Chief of War draws heavily from the epic writing of HBO's fantasy masterpiece, incorporating some light, fantastical elements of its own, with prophecy playing a major role in the plot. The pacing and dialogue feel extremely similar to Game of Thrones, and it's likely due to Jason Momoa being a fan of that series. The project is a long-term passion project of his, and he's excellent as one of its stars, creators, directors, and writers. For GOT fans, this is a must-watch.
