As wildfires continue to spread across Los Angeles County, many Chicago natives are facing the devastating consequences. Danielle Ryan, who moved to Palisades from Riverside, Illinois, four months ago, was awakened by a frantic call from her sister in Chicago . Looking out her window, she was met with a horrifying sight of smoke and panicked neighbors evacuating. The famed Sunset Boulevard was already jammed with evacuees, mirroring Ryan's own fear.
The school where she was supposed to start teaching next Monday, Pacific Palisades High School, is now destroyed. Frank Mastranuzzi, an Oak Park native living in Hollywood, described the apocalyptic scenes of fire and smoke surrounding his home. He reported that water reservoirs are running dry, and officials have advised residents not to drink tap water due to potential contamination. Mastranuzzi and others are rushing to stores to stock up on water. With fires and Santa Ana winds still raging, authorities are urging people to heed evacuation orders and avoid traveling on the roads if possible. Will Chehab, an Evanston resident who moved to the Los Angeles area seven months ago, has personally witnessed the harsh realities of Southern California's climate
