The energy giant hopes to engage more male leaders as champions for gender diverse and inclusive workplaces.
In an effort to engage male leaders as champions for gender diversity, Chevron announced Tuesday that it has given $5 million to Catalyst, a nonprofit that advocates for women’s rights.program , which aims to turn male executives into powerful allies within an organization.
Those tools include an immersive training program where leaders discuss gender stereotypes, explore strategies for establishing fruitful partnerships with women and uncover unconscious biases and privilege. Oil and gas has one of the lowest shares of women in the workforce among major industries, 22%, ahead of only construction, according to a Boston Consulting GroupThe oil and gas industry’s poor reputation as a place for women to establish and advance their career contributes to its gender gap. Women surveyed complained that they lacked awareness of opportunities, sponsorship and support from senior leaders.
