OpenAI's ChatGPT is getting a powerful new feature called Operator that will automate complex web tasks like booking restaurants and planning trips.
The long-awaited ChatGPT Operator tool, designed to automate complex web-based tasks, is poised for a swift release as early as this week. According to a report by The Information, this new AI feature will empower users to accomplish tasks like restaurant reservations or trip planning with greater ease and efficiency. Operator functions across diverse categories, providing users with tailored prompts within each category.
For instance, when reserving a restaurant, the tool will guide users with follow-up questions regarding the desired time and number of people. Users retain control over the screen while Operator is in action and can seamlessly share tasks with others. Initially, the tool won't manage Gmail accounts, but it will facilitate logging into other websites and maintain session continuity. Rumors surrounding the ChatGPT Operator feature have been circulating since last November, with BGR reporting potential capabilities akin to those envisioned by Anthropic and Google for their AI agents – the ability to control your computer autonomously. The codename 'Operator,' reminiscent of the iconic film 'The Matrix,' was first revealed by Bloomberg. This report indicated that an Operator AI agent could perform tasks like writing code or booking travel through your computer's web browser.OpenAI has reportedly been developing several AI agents, with a 'general-purpose' agent capable of web browsing nearing completion. Anthropic has already demonstrated a similar AI agent concept for Claude, which can utilize your computer in real time for web browsing and coding. Microsoft also possesses AI agents capable of sending emails and managing user records, while Google's Jarvis is slated to gain internet-browsing capabilities. Apple's integration of AI functionalities is also evident in iOS 18.4, where Siri will acquire the ability to manage apps and execute more complex actions on iPhones this year, aligning with Apple's 'Apple Intelligence' vision unveiled at WWDC. BGR will provide updates on the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT Operator tool
