New court documents claim the bullet that killed Charlie Kirk may not match the rifle allegedly used by defendant Tyler Robinson – and his lawyers are asking for a delay in his preliminary hearing.
More details relating to the murder investigation of Charlie Kirk are being released in a new court filing. The paperwork was filed Friday by Tyler Robinson’s defense team, revealing new details and also asking for the preliminary hearing to be delayed.
Here is the latest: Lawyers for Tyler Robinson, the defendant who faces multiple charges after allegedly shooting and killing Kirk on Sept. 10, 2025, said they need more time to review a bullet analysis that could contribute to his defense. They’re asking for his preliminary hearing, which is currently scheduled for May 18, to be delayed by a reported minimum of six months. The defense team said in recent court filings, which were obtained by The Associated Press, that an analysis from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives could not conclusively connect a bullet fragment recovered during an autopsy to the rifle found near the scene. They said they may try to use the analysis to clear Robinson of blame during the preliminary hearing. The ATF’s report on the bullet analysis has been kept private, but attorneys have cited snippets in other public filings that say the results were inconclusive.Prosecutors have said DNA connects Robinson to the killing and that they have enough evidence against him to proceed with a trial. The FBI is running additional bullet analysis tests, according to court documents.FOX News Digital is reporting the court filing also revealed who prosecutors intend to call to the witness stand at the preliminary hearing: Robinson is due back in court April 17 for a hearing on a defense motion to ban cameras from the courtroom. His legal team did not request the April 17 hearing to be pushed back – only his preliminary hearing.
