The Los Angeles Chargers face a crucial game against the Denver Broncos as they seek to secure a playoff berth and improve their seeding.

Chargers safety Derwin James Jr. will do his best to keep quarterback Justin Herbert and all of his teammates focused heading into a critical game against the Denver Broncos on Thursday night at SoFi Stadium. The Chargers are highly likely to make the playoffs, but they can improve their potential seeding by winning as many of their final three games as possible.

The Chargers are 8-6, third in the AFC West, with regular-season games remaining against the Broncos at SoFi Stadium and the New England Patriots (3-11) and the Las Vegas Raiders (2-12) on the road. The Chargers have an 87% chance of advancing to the playoffs. The Broncos are 9-5, second in the AFC West, with regular-season games remaining against the Chargers and the Cincinnati Bengals (6-8) on the road and the Kansas City Chiefs (13-1) at Mile High Stadium. The Broncos have a 91% chance of advancing to the playoffs. Realistically, the Chargers need at least one victory in their final three in order to turn that 87% chance into a 100% chance. Nine victories would likely be enough to fend off the Bengals, Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins, the only three remaining teams with a chance to catch the Chargers or the Broncos. The surest way into a better playoff seeding for the Chargers would be to defeat the Broncos, the Patriots and the Raiders. Beating the Broncos would give the Chargers a higher seeding in the playoffs. If the playoffs began today, the No. 7 Chargers would face the No. 2 Buffalo Bills (11-3) in a wild-card matchup in Orchard Park, New York, where it’s likely to be cold, windy and snowy in mid-January. Moving to No. 6 would pair the Chargers with the No. 3 Baltimore Ravens (9-5) in the wild-card round
