Kota Kinabalu: The State Farmers’ Organisation (PPN) Sabah suggests that allocations for the Farmers’ Organisations in Sabah and Sarawak be channelled directly to both states starting next year instead of through the National Farmers’ Organisation (Nafas).

PPN Sabah Chairman Datuk Mohd Nazri Abdullah said this would align with the Federal Government’s commitment to fulfilling the 1963 Malaysia Agreement to ensure that the needs of Sabah and Sarawak can be met.He said a motion for the change in the distribution of allocation method for the two Borneo states was unanimously passed by the delegates during the PPN Sabah Annual General Meeting held last Friday.

Mohd Nazri said direct distribution of allocations to PPN Sabah and Sarawak can ensure that aid for farmers, breeders and fishermen is channelled more quickly so that the benefits can be enjoyed immediately by them as the target groups. He said the Prime Minister must understand the needs of the farmers, breeders and fishermen, especially in Sabah and Sarawak who really need more protection in an effort to improve their living standards.

“So, the aid arrived quickly, thus helping to facilitate the Government’s efforts to implement aid distribution,” he said. It is to enable the work of distributing inputs to registered farmers in Sabah to be carried out by the PPN Sabah together with the 27 PPK in Sabah and no longer given to the Nafas based and managing from Peninsular Malaysia.
