Chavez Watkins turned the game when he ripped the ball out of Mitchell Melfe’s hands with the Warriors leading 14-6 in the second quarter.“Our offense is really good, but we’re a defensive team,” said Cox, whose team improved to 10-0 overall and finished 5-0 in league play. “We’re a defensive team and turnovers are a big role on defense. That was a nice energizer that we needed, and after that, it was big play after big play.
“We’ve done this eight out of nine years ,” Warriors coach Milan Smith said. “We’ve shown a level of consistency. We’ve shown that the guys understand that it is a marathon and not a sprint. It’s humbling. What a great way to compete tonight. I know the scoreboard doesn’t show it … but it was a competitive game and I want to tip my hat to the Buckeye Valley staff. They’ve done an amazing job in such a short period of time.
“It’s a bit odd,” coach Matt Stephens said. “It’s Week 10 and I’m talking about next week. I haven’t done that in my coaching career.”
