Central Ohio is preparing for a weekend of frigid temperatures, a Cold Weather Advisory and a Winter Storm Warning. The region is expecting significant snowfall, with potential totals of 8-12+ inches. Residents are urged to prepare for hazardous road conditions and extreme cold.
Good Friday evening! The sunshine and clear pavement were enjoyable today, but temperatures are dropping dramatically. Temperatures will continue falling overnight, reaching approximately 0 degrees Fahrenheit by daybreak Saturday. Clouds will move in overnight, and light winds will allow wind chills to plummet as low as -10 degrees Fahrenheit tomorrow morning. A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for Central Ohio until midday Saturday, emphasizing the need for caution.
We will remain mostly cloudy throughout Saturday as temperatures slowly rise to around 14 degrees Fahrenheit by the afternoon. Road conditions should remain favorable until late afternoon and evening, when snow begins to move in from the southwest. Snow showers will be light and intermittent on the leading edge of the system Saturday evening. Road conditions will deteriorate overnight and into Sunday morning as the snow becomes more consistent and heavier, creating hazardous travel conditions. Heavy, persistent snowfall is expected from approximately 4 AM to 4 PM Sunday, followed by lighter snowfall on the back end of the system Sunday evening. It is important to remember that it is crucial to stay safe and well-prepared.\Sunday will begin with temperatures in the teens, then warm into the lower 20s Fahrenheit by the afternoon. The expected snowfall will be light and fluffy, accumulating quickly. This type of snow is ideal for snow angels but not well-suited for packing snowballs or building snowmen. Southern Ohio may experience a mixture of snow and sleet in the afternoon as warmer air attempts to move in near the Ohio River; however, Central Ohio is currently expected to receive all snow. Snowfall totals are generally expected to be 8–12+ inches for much of central, southern, and eastern Ohio. Northwest Ohio is projected to receive closer to 6–10 inches of snow by Monday morning. It is recommended to shovel snow in multiple rounds on Sunday to lighten the load and reduce the risk of injury. Light snow showers are possible early Monday morning, but most of the snow should be exiting the area before daybreak. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for all of Central Ohio for this weather event, so residents should take the necessary precautions. Winds are expected to be fairly light on Sunday, but a stronger breeze is expected on Monday and Tuesday, potentially leading to blowing and drifting snow. There is no expected melting next week due to the frigid temperatures, with high temperatures staying in the teens and overnight lows near or below zero. Monday will be partly cloudy with a morning low around 6 degrees Fahrenheit and a high around 14 degrees Fahrenheit. Tuesday will bring more clouds, with a morning low around -3 degrees Fahrenheit and a high around 17 degrees Fahrenheit. Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with a morning low around 5 degrees Fahrenheit and a high around 16 degrees Fahrenheit. A few light snow showers are possible late Wednesday into Thursday due to another weak clipper and cold front, and it is important to be cautious during this time. Thursday will be mostly cloudy with a morning low around 4 degrees Fahrenheit and a high around 14 degrees Fahrenheit. Friday will be partly cloudy with a low around -2 degrees Fahrenheit and a high around 16 degrees Fahrenheit.\A Cold Weather Advisory has been issued for all of Central Ohio from 6 PM Friday until noon Saturday because wind chills could be as cold as -10 degrees Fahrenheit.
