ABC 6 News is told multiple board members may have played a role in a strategy described in the recent, controversial document.
The teachers' union is Columbus is throwing heavy allegations against a school board member only weeks before the board of education votes on possible school mergers and closures for Columbus City Schools. is demanding more answers after an investigative report found one school board member acted alone in creating a document that targeted the union and its members.
The controversy started the morning of May 21 when CEA released the leaked document titled "Taking Control of the Task Force Narrative." The document was aimed at improving the district's communication strategy when discussing the need to close and merge schools.to investigate the document released a report this week that stated board member Brandon Simmons created multiple versions of the document, and that no one else worked with him to create it.
During the May 21 meeting, public comment was placed at the end of the meeting instead of the beginning, like in previous meetings. A third grader who signed up to ask for his elementary school not too close had to wait 2.5 hours before he could address the board. And -- unlike the previous meeting of seven speakers, who stated they were opposed to the school closure recommendations -- the majority of the speakers who signed up to speak on May 21 supported closures.
ABC 6 News contacted Kogan on Thursday to ask why he spoke within a month's timeframe twice on the same issue. He said he was invited to do so by a member of the school board, who called him by phone.
