Tim Meadows smiling in DMV
At long last, it's nearly"Payday" at the DMV. Unfortunately for the colorful crew of CBS' workplace comedy, their many hours manning the dreaded, often boring office in North Hollywood don't exactly amount to a big paycheck at the end of the day.
As everyone awaits their minimum wage, tonight's episode will see them all scrambling to find a side hustle to help scrape by with a bit of extra cash until then. However, running out of money isn't a concern for one member of the team. Collider can exclusively share a new sneak peek that sees Gregg learning that someone, despite being stuck working in this dead-end job where it's hard even to get a chair that works properly, is actually filthy rich. The footage opens with Gregg calling to leave a message for his son's teacher when he notices Noa arriving at work in an Uber. Immediately, it strikes him as odd since it's so close to payday and, given that he works at the DMV, his last paycheck should be stretching very thin right now. When Noa walks in, he only has more questions. Having slaved away at this job for quite some time, Gregg knows that most workers can't make it to payday without a side hustle and a bit of depression, yet the New Zealander has neither, which means he must have real money. It makes no sense since he cut his wealthy parents off, but Noa explains that he still has Curtis, his family's business manager. Although he insists he's not rich, Gregg asks him how he pays his rent and credit card, and keeps his bank account stocked, and, lo and behold, it's all Curtis. That revelation explains a lot for Gregg, especially Noa's perfect teeth. For now, though, Noa wants him to keep it all a secret from the rest of the office. Everyone else doesn't have a Curtis in their lives, so they have to find other ways to make ends meet before payday. Much of the focus of the episode will be on Collette and Cici as they try to pull their branch manager, Barb , out of a pyramid scheme. However, for one reason or another, this iteration is much more enticing than most and threatens to drag everyone into its orbit. With Vic also having a job for Noa, the episode is built to bring the laughs with the team's doomed attempts at surviving until their next check. Related Casting Directors — The Collider TV Quiz! When a new actor takes over an existing role, audiences can be wary. On this first day of spring, let's look at some characters who got fresh starts. Posts By Macklen Makhloghi Will 'DMV' Get a Second Season at CBS? To this point, CBS has shown a lot of confidence in its #1 new comedy. DMV was given a full season order of 20 episodes, giving the dynamics of this quirky crew a chance to grow as they navigate the twists, turns, bureaucracy, and frustrated customers that enter their office every day. However, the network left the workplace comedy out of its massive slate of renewals back in January, and no official decision has been made either way. At the very least, including tonight's installment, there are still seven episodes remaining, packed with office antics and more revelations about the characters to enjoy before the series clocks out. Speaking to Collider's Samantha Coley for our Spring Exclusive Preview series, Meadows teased that the back half of the season will continue to provide more insight into Gregg and his role as a mentor of sorts for the rest of the staff."You learn that my character, everyone ends up coming to him for advice, and everything," he said. Aside from that, there will be more payoffs from the show's first half that dive into a few key aspects of his character, including his surprising competence at his job."You also learn that he's an insanely good driving instructor. Even though he hates his job, there are some things that he can do very well. And the Firebird that he has in the first half of the show, you see as this old souped-up muscle car, but there's a reason that he has that car, and you find out about that in the second half of the season." DMV Episode 14 premieres tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. Check out our exclusive sneak peek in the player above.
