Ogden, N.Y. (WHAM) – Shocking surveillance video shows a man taking a statue from a local nonprofit Tuesday night.
Surveillance video captured an individual taking the Pirate Toy Fund 's statue from its Ogden facility Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024. The Pirate Toy Fund supplies new toys year-round to agencies that help children in need.
Executive Director Otto Harnischfeger said when he arrived at the nonprofit’s Ogden facility Wednesday morning, the beloved statue was gone. "It’s a friendly kid statue, it helps us promote what we do all year round, giving out toys to kids in need,” Harnischfeger said. “That’s what we do all year round. It was a nice symbol when you walked in the front door to see it standing there.”“We gave out 41,000 toys last year to children in need,” Harnischfeger said. “It helps us promote that. People see that statue of a little child in a pirate outfit and they want to give to us, they want to help the children.”"It’s about 4 foot tall,” Harnischfeger explained. "It’s got a sword in its hand, pirate hat with a little pirate logo on the front of it."“In today’s world, everything is crazy, with all the evil going on. If you see something, say something,” Harnischfeger said. “If you see the vehicle that you are going to see on the screen, or our statue someplace, please call 911. Let them know where it’s at and let the authorities take action, and hopefully apprehend the guy who took it.”
