Derek Thompson will say goodbye to his Casualty character Charlie Fairhead after 38 years
Tissues at the ready as it is the end of an era this weekend with Casualty saying goodbye to its longest-running character Charlie Fairhead.
The last scenes with Charlie are set to air in Casualty on Saturday, March 16. The episode will broadcast at 9.25pm on BBC1.Lots of surprises are planned for the exit of Charlie. We can likely expect the reappearance of a few former favourites. BBC bosses have remained tight-lipped on plans.Where you have seen him before? Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1948, with twin sister Elaine. He formed the singing duo of Elaine and Derek with his sister. They released music together.
Derek, who has dystonia, became patron of the Dystonia Society in 2006. The condition consists of abnormal muscle tone resulting in muscular spasm and abnormal posture. “Together with the writers and producers, I have tried to bring to Charlie the compassion, kindness, heroism and sound judgement that we all see and love in Pete and I want to say thanks to Pete and everyone else over that time who has inspired me in bringing this character to life.”
