MELAKA: A number of tourists, mostly from Europe, are stranded in the historic city here – and with their funds running out, they may not have any place to stay, says Global Goodwill Ambassador (GGA) representative, Ganesh Somwanshi.

He said based on feedback, there are tourists who have been staying at hotels since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and are now cash-strapped, unable to pay for their rooms and meals.

"Some hoteliers have been kind enough to allow them to stay for free but the duration has been too long and they have been asked to find other places that can offer them free accommodation. "It's a sad situation as many are unable to return to their homeland due to the restriction of flights in wake of the Covid-19 pandemic," he said on Wednesday ."I have asked my Malaysian partners to get information on other Europeans who are stuck here," he said.

GGA is an online initiative to recognise and reach people from every nation, regardless of race, colour, and socio-economic status and has approximately 645 million members worldwide.Meanwhile, Bayou Lagoon Park Resort CEO Datuk Marco Seow said they were willing to accommodate stranded tourists at his resort in Bukit Katil here.

He said the resort was providing accommodation to frontliners and he did not mind giving rooms to the tourists.Article type: free
