Bestway Sandwiches Inc. has issued a nationwide recall of Casa Mamita Chicken & Cheese Taquitos after reports of metal found in the product. The recall affects 20-ounce carton packages with best-by dates of 07/03/25 and 09/25/25. Consumers are advised to discard or return the recalled products.

A nationwide recall of Casa Mamita Chicken & Cheese Taquitos has been announced by the Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service ( FSIS ) after a consumer reported finding metal inside. The product has been recalled by manufacturer Bestway Sandwiches Inc., based in Valencia, California. It is shipped to Aldi supermarkets nationwide. Newsweek contacted Bestway Sandwiches Inc. via phone on Sunday for comment, and left a voice message.

\Metals can have an array of harmful effects on the body. Small fragments can cause laceration and punctures to digestive organs, such as the esophagus, stomach or intestines, while metallic particles can become lodged in a person's throat and airways. Metal fragments may also crack or chip teeth. Foreign metals can even carry bacteria into the body and could trigger an allergic reaction in some consumers. \The recall affects the 20-ounce carton packages containing 'CASA MAMITA CHICKEN & CHEESE TAQUITOS,' with best-by dates 07/03/25 and 09/25/25 on the bottom panel. The product bears establishment number 'EST. P-40327' on the carton package. The FSIS issued an image of the packaging: \The firm informed FSIS of a consumer complaint about metal found in a frozen chicken and cheese taquito. Another consumer reported a dental injury to FSIS after eating the product. No additional injuries or illnesses have been reported. Anyone worried about an injury or illness should consult a health-care provider. \The FSIS said it was concerned that some of these products may still be in consumers' freezers. Those who have purchased them should not eat them and are advised to discard the products or return them to the store where they were purchased. \The presence of foreign objects in food items, such as small pieces of plastic or metal, accounted for 11.6 percent of recalls issued by U.S. health authorities—the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the FSIS—between 2020 and 2024, according to analysis by regulatory compliance company Trace One. \No specific metals were named by Bestway Sandwiches Inc. or by the FSIS in the recall notice. \Customers who have purchased any of the affected products should not consume the item and are encouraged to seek a full refund from the place of purchase or discard the product entirely. Consumers with questions can contact Bestway Sandwiches Inc. at (818) 361-1800, or the FSIS hotline at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854) or send a question via email to [email protected]
