Carrie Underwood is returning home to “American Idol,” but this time as a judge.
The Grammy-winning singer, 41, is expected to be named a new judge of the singing competition show that made her famous,Underwood will join judges Lionel Richie , 75, and Luke Bryan , 48, while replacing Katy Perry , 39, who announced earlier this year thatThe Disney-owned network rebooted “Idol” in 2018. It was previously broadcast on Fox from 2002 to 2016.

“We currently haven’t heard what the story is on who’s coming back, and if Lionel and I are coming back. I think Disney is just trying to figure out what they want to do and we’re just kind of sitting back and waiting until they decide.”Back in 2018, just before Perry joined the sing-off, rumors spread that Kelly Clarkson, the original “Idol” winner, was being courted by ABC as a judge for the first season of their reboot.
