Carnival Corporation will pay $20 million after admitting to dumping waste in the Bahamas
In a long history of plastic waste and oil dumping, Carnival Corporation, the largest cruise company in the world, admitted its subsidiary dumped plastic overboard in the Bahamas.
Judge Patricia Seitz ordered all members of the Carnival Corporation Executive Committee to attend the hearing as Seitz grew increasingly frustrated at Carnival's long history of environmental violations associated with dumping waste overboard. Carnival pleaded guilty to dumping plastic waste, not accurately recording waste disposals, creating false waste records, and sending crews to temporarily fix environmental violations before they can be inspected.
