Just who deposited those checks is under investigation by Hudson prosecutors, sources told The Jersey Journal.
“CarePoint is a victim in this situation,” Brennan said. “We are hopeful that there will be a swift resolution.”
The investigation comes just as the hospitals are receiving state permission to convert from for-profit to nonprofit status. Certification for both Bayonne Medical Center and Hoboken University Medical Center has been approved, and the State Health Planning Board has recommended that the change in status for Christ Hospital should be approved as well.
The decision on Christ Hospital was delayed so the board could examine a new lease deal that was agreed upon in December, when the majority of the hospital property was sold to a company controlled by Alaris Health founder Avery Eisenreich. “CarePoint Health’s conversion to a nonprofit will open up tens of millions of dollars in potential funding opportunities not available under the current structure with a separate foundation, and we will evaluate all options once we receive final state approval in order to provide Hudson County residents with the best possible care,” said Brennan.
