Steve Rogers aka Captain America shields himself from an exploding Red Skull in official Marvel Comics art

Marvel's Captain America may be the epitome of peak-human strength and physical capabilities, but he's officially sixteen times weaker than a villain Spider-Man fights on a regular basis. The Super Soldier serum transformed Steve Rogers from an ill and underdeveloped recruit into the living embodiment of the perfect soldier, making him able to fight extraterrestrial, mystical, and scientific threats that weren't even thought possible when the serum was created.

Captain America is used to ripping robots and vehicles apart with his hands, withstanding explosions and attacks from villains as powerful as Thanos, and surviving battles that would wipe out entire battalions. Thanks to his enhanced biology, Steve Rogers can pride himself on amassing an endless list of near-death scenarios and having few scars to prove it. But not even the perfect Super Soldier can compare with some of the supervillains running around the Marvel Universe. Green Goblin Is Officially 16 Times Stronger Than Captain America The Amazing Spider-Man #25; Written by Joe Kelly; Art by Ed McGuinness, Cliff Hathburn, Pere Pérez, Marcio Menyz, and Erick Arciniega While Spider-Man, Mary Jane, and Eddie Brock face the symbiote Spiral, Miles Morales meets Norman Osborn at his "evil rich-guy library" to discuss Norman's training initiative. Miles points out how weird it is for him to watch Norman lift two tons. Norman Osborn is quick to correct Miles, saying he's "pushing light" lifting two tons, as he usually bench-presses eight tons when he's uninjured. That means the Green Goblin can bench press twenty-two-and-a-half times more than the real-life world-record holder Julius Maddox, who lifted 355 kg in 2021. Although strength levels vary depending on the writer and the era, Captain America has been said to lift around half a ton at his peak. According to Captain America #402, Steve Rogers can bench press 1,100 lbs , which is 145 kg more than Julius Maddox. This adheres to the idea that the Super Soldier serum helped Steve reach peak-human form, not more and not less. However, this also means that the Green Goblin can bench press 16 times more than Captain America on any given day. One of Green Goblin's traits is his manipulative mind, and considering that Norman is trying to convince Miles Morales to become his protégé, it's possible that he's exaggerating about his strength levels. Still, Green Goblin has proved time and again that his lanky frame hides an extraordinary amount of power. There's a reason Norman Osborn is able to overpower Spider-Man, multiple other heroes, and multiple other villains, in virtually every reality of the Marvel multiverse. Green Goblin Is More Than Just Marvel's Version Of The Joker Green Goblin Is A Nightmare Come To Life Green Goblin and the Joker are famous for similar reasons, as they're the archnemeses of Marvel and DC's most popular heroes, respectively, and their primary weapon is their cruelty. But whereas the Joker's charm lies in the irony of being able to do so much damage as someone so physically weak, Marvel's Green Goblin is a double threat. Norman Osborn can design an intricate scheme to ruin Spider-Man's life, but he can also beat the wall-crawler to a pulp when he deems it necessary. Related After 63 Years, Marvel is Officially Breaking Spider-Man’s Most Important Rule The Amazing Spider-Man has been controversial for a while now, but Peter Parker's recent arc has left him as a supporting character in his own book. Posts By Jared Stewart Green Goblin's strength may not be as evident as that of villains like Venom or Sandman, but he certainly needs superhuman physiology in order to withstand attacks from Spider-Man, Miles Morales, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Doctor Octopus. He's also used to having his pumpkin bombs and glider turned against him, and he regularly ends up doing more damage than strength-based antagonists like Rhino or Juggernaut. When he's defeated, it doesn't take long for Green Goblin to heal and come back with a vengeance. Norman Osborn is the kind of villain who plays with his food, and Captain America's strategic mind allows him to take on much stronger opponents than himself. But if it came down to sheer strength alone, Steve Rogers would definitely find himself outmatched. In fact, dozens of Avengers are technically weaker than Green Goblin, and many of them may not be prepared to fight such a ruthless, cold-blooded supervillain.
