The team affectionately known as the Cape Town Destroyers specialises in vehicle extrications. And they are jetting off to Spain this week to compete in the World Rescue Challenge from 16 to 21 October.Meet the Cape Town Destroyers, South Africa’s and maybe the world’s best. Picture: CoCT.
At the competition, three simulations of rescue scenarios will be orchestrated. Each scenario lasts 25 minutes and there are multiple patients to extricate. These involve complex extraction techniques such as door and roof removals, while also rendering care for multiple patients.Another benefit of the competition is exposure to new extrication techniques used around the world, said Smith.
