As a mom, it can be hard to let your children make mistakes. But it’s important that they try new things. Candace Cameron Bure shares how she takes a step back and lets her daughter, Natasha, build her own brand identity.
... [+]One thing that stands out to me is she [Candace] really pushed me when I was in early high school to say yes to any opportunity, and especially if it scares you or if it might be out of your comfort zone,” Natasha shares. “The biggest one for me was when I was a contestant on . I did not want to do that at all. I’m such a competitive person, and I’m very much a perfectionist. So the thought of getting eliminated or not singing perfectly on live television was so terrifying to me.
As a mom, Candace had to let her daughter experience this situation in order for her to grow and develop as an entertainer. As a performer, she had to put her own advice to use for a voiceover audition. “I actually had to put that advice to use just a few weeks ago,” Candace smiles. “I literally thought of Natasha because I thought to myself as a mom, ‘This is what I tell my kids every day. Don’t be scared. Just say yes, it’s okay. If you fail, it doesn’t matter. Just try it.’ I had an audition for an animated movie. I got so sick to my stomach because I don’t do voiceover work. The whole process was a little scary for me because it’s not something I typically do.
“I’ve let her [Natasha] know that there’s always going to be critics there,” Candace concludes. “She’s never going to please everyone. No matter how good you feel, how amazing a performance or a skill was, there’s always going to be a naysayer out there, which is so unfortunate, but it’s something that you have to prepare your heart and your mind for.
