A new California law regulating parking along colored curbs, including red ones, has been met with mixed reactions. While the state mandates a blanket approach, San Diego officials are utilizing common sense to evaluate which intersections need red curb restrictions. The city aims to prioritize areas with high pedestrian traffic and adjust the regulations to best serve local communities.
California law regulates parking along colo red curbs , including red ones, which are typically for emergency vehicles and fire hydrants only. Re “Ahead of state ban on parking within 20 feet of intersections, San Diego paints thousands of curbs red” : The state has issued blanket instructions with no evaluation of where and how they should be thoughtfully integrated in different cities.
San Diego can now use common sense and evaluate what intersections should be affected, such as commercial zones with lots of pedestrian traffic interspersed with heavy traffic, buses, delivery trucks, etc. Using common sense, we do not need to intrude into residential areas where there are limited pedestrian dog walkers and seniors strolling to get exercise. Our street parking here is limited at best and more so now that numerous apartments with minimal parking for tenants continue to increase.
San Diego officials have the responsibility to run our city so that orders from Sacramento are adjusted to best serve our own communities. We trust them to do just that.
