Ballots go out this week for the Nov. 8 general election.
Ballots are going out Monday for the Nov. 8 Election. Here’s what you need to know:This is a general election which includes statewide and local races for U.S. Congress and statewide offices including governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, controller, treasurer, insurance commissioner and superintendent of public instruction.
There also are seven statewide ballot measures on matters ranging from sports gambling to abortion, dialysis clinics and electric cars. In addition, there are local races for state legislative seats, mayor in San Jose and Oakland, other local government seats and ballot measures including school bonds and taxes.
There also are 27 counties participating in the 2016 Voters Choice Act system, including in the Bay Area, Santa Clara, Alameda, San Mateo, Marin, Sonoma and Napa, as well as nearby Santa Cruz and San Benito, which also will be setting up “vote centers” similar to voting precincts but voters can use any one of them. There, they can drop off a ballot, vote in person, get a replacement ballot, use a voting machine, get language help and register or update their registration to vote.
