A California couple is suing JetBlue after a large piece of ice reportedly fell from one of their planes and crashed through their bedroom ceiling. The couple claims the incident caused them emotional distress, physical pain, and property damage.

A California couple is suing JetBlue for $1 million, alleging that a large chunk of ice fell from one of its planes and crashed through their bedroom ceiling. Michael Reese and Leah Ferrarini filed a complaint earlier this month, stating that a watermelon-sized piece of ice struck their roof and landed directly over their bed shortly after 8 p.m. last January.

The couple claims the frozen debris originated from a JetBlue Airbus A321 that was flying over their Inglewood home en route from Los Angeles to New York. \The plaintiffs are accusing JetBlue of negligence for operating a dangerous aircraft and trespassing, as they assert that they did not grant JetBlue permission to allow the ice to enter their home and cause damage. Following the incident, police and firefighters responded to the scene, and the Federal Aviation Administration launched an investigation, according to the lawsuit. Reese and Ferrarini say they are seeking to move from their home because they no longer feel safe there. They are demanding $300,000 for emotional distress, $300,000 for pain, suffering, and inconvenience, $40,000 in medical expenses, and $360,000 in property damages. \The same A321 aircraft was reportedly suspected of dropping ice onto a Massachusetts home in August 2023, the suit adds. About a week after the California incident, inspections of the plane's water system revealed that a valve flange, a component connecting a valve to a pipe, was misaligned and causing a leak, according to the lawsuit. In a court filing, JetBlue denied responsibility, claiming their actions adhered to industry standards and regulations. They requested the court to award them attorneys' fees for the lawsuit's expenses
