The senior quarterback's 37-yard scoring run was the difference against Angleton as the Rangers punched their ticket to the state championship game in Arlington
WACO — Playing with a short memory and determination, senior quarterback Cade Spradling scampered 37 yards for a touchdown with 2:37 remaining in the fourth quarter to lift Smithson Valley to a 21-14 victory against Angleton in a Class 5A Division I state semifinal Saturday at Baylor ’s McLane Stadium. The score made up for a fumble he lost just 6 ½ minutes earlier that changed the trajectory of the contest. “Honestly, I’m not surprised,” senior receiver Brody Day said.

It’s not a big deal.” It didn’t stop him from finishing with 124 yards, including that 37-yard score, on 21 carries. He connected with Day for a 3-yard touchdown with 8:31 remaining in the second for a 7-0 Rangers lead. Smithson Valley took a 14-0 lead with 2:05 left before halftime on Brad Sowersby’s 15-yard TD run.
