A 22-year-old Burleson man who idolized the Columbine shooters was sentenced Friday to 14 years in federal prison for possessing a homemade bomb and child pornography., 22, must also serve 30 years of supervised release following his prison time, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release.that he had posted images of himself on social media wearing tactical-style vests and posing with AR-15 rifles, the release said.
Calderon admitted in plea papers that he had more than 650 grams of explosive powder in his garage, as well as a lighter, cannon fuse, cardboard tubing, a glass jar marked “frag” that contained metal ball bearings, lead, a funnel and measuring spoons.A subsequent search of Calderon’s Google history revealed searches about the Columbine killers, the Charleston church shooter, “pipe bomb how to make” and “how to make propane bombs.” He had also searched names of several area public schools.
Authorities later found sexually explicit videos on Calderon’s phone taken from a video chat with a 13-year-old girl, according to the release. He admitted in plea papers that he was aware of the girl’s age when he saved the videos.In a statement, Dallas FBI Special Agent in Charge Chad Yarbrough said the information provided to authorities showed a “distinct pathway to further violence that was ultimately thwarted by law enforcement.
