At The Gates stars Noah Wyle and Ezekiel Pacheco discuss the dynamic between their characters and Augustus Bernstein's unique directing style.

Summary In At The Gates, Ana and her son Nico are forced to hide from Immigration Enforcement. When the officers come to the house of their employer, a wealthy family in Los Angeles, they are terrified and unsure of what to do. However, the affluent couple, Miranda and Peter, offer to hide them in their basement in the hopes that they won't be found. As the days go by, these two families begin to grow suspicious of one another, questioning each other's motivation.

Ezekiel Pacheco: Yeah, I got an audition from my agent, and I read the script that night. I was like, This was meant for me. I need this. I want it. I'm gonna have it. I was working at Amazon at the time, dropping off packages. The closer and closer I got, I got to meet Augie. Auggie and I just connected right away. He was a very amazing director, to have one of the most fearless and open-hearted directors. When he gave me the part, I was over the moon and very excited.

Can you tell me a little bit about your character and the dynamic that you two have with each other? Because that's one of my favorite things to watch in the movie. Ezekiel, can you talk a little bit about what you wanted to bring to this role to make it your own? Because when I talked to the director earlier, he said that this really kind of hit home for you.

Ezekiel Pacheco: Yeah, for sure. It's my first movie. Yeah, I learned a lot, but I'm very grateful. I was very present in that moment to work with great actors, work with a great director like Augustus. I was very grateful for that opportunity. But I've been envisioning it for so long that when I was there, I was so happy to be able to show the world that I'm a leading man. And the world is gonna see me as a leading man for many years to come.

So what I took away from this movie is that I talk a good game about what I like about acting, what I like about the work, and the experience, and very rarely am I ever given an opportunity to have that. If you want that, you have to do it for very little money on these kinds of movies that are made for under a million dollars and are made with a lot of heart because that's the process. That's where you really get to be craftsmen.
