Authorities in Northern and Central California have recovered 700 pieces of stolen property worth an estimated $1 million, linked to a sophisticated ring of burglars targeting Bay Area Asian American households. The haul came after search warrants were executed throughout the region, resulting in the arrest of three suspects: Alberto Ibarra Vallejo, 25; Gonzalo Valencia Ramos, 28; and Jaime Martinez Arroyo, 46.
\These suspects are believed to be responsible for nearly 80 burglaries since June, spanning West San José, Cupertino, Saratoga, Campbell, and Mountain View. Police Chief Paul Joseph announced the arrests at a news conference Wednesday, stating that the operation had been ongoing for many months. \The investigation began when a Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department detective recognized one of the suspects on a doorbell camera. This recognition prompted a wider investigation, leading to the discovery of additional suspects and the meticulous recovery of stolen goods. The group targeted AAPI households, believing they would find a significant amount of valuables, according to Joseph. They reportedly preferred jewelry, cash, high-end purses, and foreign currency over larger electronics. \Mayor Matt Mahan expressed relief at the arrests, acknowledging the fear and frustration that had gripped the AAPI community in West San José for the past six months. Councilmember Rosemary Kamei, who also resides in the affected neighborhood, shared the community's sense of vulnerability and relief at the perpetrators' apprehension. The suspects are currently held without bail and are scheduled to appear in court on February 3rd. It is anticipated that additional charges, possibly including hate crimes, will be filed against them. San José Police Department detectives are continuing their investigation to determine if there are further members of the burglary ring involved
