Buffy's sequel is a chance to put things right.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is getting a new sequel in the form of an Audible series, and it has the chance to right Cordelia Chase's story from Angel. Buffy season 7 brought the show to an end in 2003, but the story has never truly gone away, having continued in multiple comics over the years.
Her arc in Angel season 4, then, was a serious injustice at the time. Cordelia being supernaturally pregnant without her consent , sleeping with Connor, and becoming the villainous Beast Master were wild, out-of-nowhere story turns. Not only were they disrespectful to her character, but they just didn’t really make sense and didn’t work on a fundamental storytelling level.
Several others who worked on Buffy and/or Angel have come forward either in support of Carpenter, or to speak their own truths about Whedon. It is hard to truly right the wrongs of such abuses of power and the shows will always have, in some way, a complicated legacy, but Buffy’s new sequel can at least go some way to addressing those, especially because Cordelia - and Carpenter - are such a central part of it.
It’s clear that Angel season 4, and her return in season 5, where she was killed off despite assurances that wouldn’t happen, were not stories told on her terms . The new Audible series is clearly the opposite of that, and that is one of the most important and exciting parts of it happening.
