Who is the vampire Armand in Interview with the Vampire?
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The vampire Armand is a pivotal player in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, and the twist ending of AMC's Interview with the Vampire finally introduced the legendary bloodsucker. Debuting in 2022, the newest reimagining of Anne Rice's classic novel follows journalist Daniel Molloy who travels to Dubai to interview vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac who recounts his incredible life story.
Though AMC's Armand was technically only introduced in the season 1 finale of Interview with the Vampire, he already played a much larger role, and there are clearly plans for more Armand in the upcoming seasons. In an interview with Den of Geek, Armand actor Assad Zaman recounted his behind-the-scenes experience during the casting process when he was told "we’re trying to find a balance of someone who we can go into season two with Armand with".
However, thanks to the added wrinkle that Daniel and Louis have a backstory together, Daniel suddenly remembers a time in the 1970s when he and Louis met, and Louis had Rashid in tow. Obviously, the relatively youthful Rashid would have aged in the decades since, and that is when the revelation is dropped that Rashid is in fact the vampire Armand. None of the subterfuge happened in Rice's book, and Rashid was a new fabrication for the sake of the show.
In the book, Armand and Louis' past is rather checkered, especially when it comes to the death of Claudia which Armand allows to happen. Though they remain linked forever, Armand and Louis aren't necessarily friendly, and whatever romantic passion they may have had was burned out by the years. In the show, Louis and Armand are truly in love, which will be a fascinating wrinkle as the show moves forward.
