Definitions of affordable differ among the mixed-income developments underway in the area. Some reserve affordable units for people earning upward of 80 percent of the Houston area’s median income, or– which is affordable for many moving into the neighborhood but out of reach for many longtime residents. As recently as 2019, the median income for households in the East End was under $40,000, according to census estimates.
