Leann Alferio, a Coordinator of Special Education at Brunswick Schools, pleaded guilty to wire fraud and is scheduled to be sentenced on April 30. Alferio was initially placed on administrative leave, but has since been allowed to return to work after the district determined the situation did not impact school business.

A Brunswick Schools employee, Leann Alferio, 43, pleaded guilty on Thursday to a charge of wire fraud. Court staff confirmed Alferio will be sentenced on April 30 for interception of wire, oral or electronic communications. 19 News obtained an updated statement from District Superintendent Jason A. Niedermeyer regarding the situation. \The statement reads: “The Brunswick City School District is aware that one of our employees, Ms.

Leann Alferio, Coordinator of Special Education, has an open pending legal matter that is unrelated to school district business. Ms. Alferio was placed on administrative leave originally so that the District would have time and space to understand what occurred. With the safety of our students and staff remaining our number one concern, we have determined that Ms. Alferio can continue to work and support our special education program and its students. The District continues to monitor this situation in the event that it impacts school district business.”\Court records show Alferio’s case was originally scheduled for trial on Thursday, but she opted to enter a guilty plea instead. This news comes amidst other recent incidents reported by 19 News, including the tragic discovery of a toddler found dead in the snow who reportedly escaped through a door kicked down by a family member and the arrest of a serial shoplifter who targeted a specific store. In a separate incident, a woman received a life sentence for fatally shooting another woman at an Akron bar
