Former Seven producer Taylor Auerbach has admitted he “back grounded” journalists with information about his former friend and colleague Steve Jackson, who was up for a role at the NSW Police. In cross-examination, Auerbach said he was “deeply concerned” and was “not proud” of the two episodes of Seven’s flagship Spotlight program interviewing Bruce Lehrmann.

Lehrmann’s barrister, Matthew Richardson, SC, is pressing Auerbach on whether there was a deep falling out between Auerbach, Jackson and Spotlight executive producer Mark Llewellyn after he was taken off the Lehrmann story. “Did you blame Mr Jackson for the fact Seven didn’t renew your contract?” Richardson asked. “In part,” Auerbach replied. Richardson: “He replaced you as producer of the Spotlight program.” Auerbach: “Yeah.
