The Cleveland Browns are pushing for $1.2 billion in public funding for a domed stadium in Brook Park, touting economic benefits and increased major events, but their claims face scrutiny for feasibility and conflict with Cleveland’s own analysis.
Browns say $1.2B public subsidy for Brook Park dome would boost region, but team’s analysis conflicts with Cleveland’sPotential Cleveland Browns stadium site in Brook Park. To the left is Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. To the north is the remaining Ford plant. The highways on the edges of the site are Ohio 237 and Interstate 71, with I-480 to the north.
For months, the team has refused to share potential financing plans for construction of its $2.4 billion dream stadium. The Browns again refused to share that information this week. While owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam want local and state taxpayers to pony up $1.2 billion for it, Cuyahoga County has already refused to chip in, and it’s unclear whether state lawmakers will agree to contribute hundreds of millions in state tax dollars.
