The Cleveland Browns are turning to a familiar face to lead their offense, promoting tight ends coach and passing game specialist Tommy Rees to the role of offensive coordinator , according to a source. Rees, who had attracted interest from several teams around the league for various coaching positions, emerged as a top candidate for the internal promotion.
The Browns initially hired Rees last February following a season as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Prior to that, he spent six years honing his coaching skills at the University of Notre Dame, beginning as a quarterbacks coach before ascending to the role of offensive coordinator. Rees' impressive resume and his understanding of the Browns' current roster made him a natural fit for the position.Last week, a league source confirmed that Rees had interviewed for the offensive coordinator role. The interview came just a day after the Browns concluded their 2022-2023 season with a disheartening 35-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, leaving them with a 3-14 record. Following that game, the team made the decision to part ways with offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and offensive line coach Andy Dickerson.
