Braga Fresh has issued a voluntary recall of its Marketside Broccoli Florets in 20 U.S. states due to potential Listeria contamination.

Bags of ready-to-eat broccoli florets have been recalled in 20 U.S. states over concerns that they may be contaminated with listeria. Braga Fresh voluntarily recalled a single production lot of washed and ready-to-eat, 12-ounce Marketside Broccoli Florets, according to a notice posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The recalled broccoli has a 'best if used by' date of Dec 10, 2024, and was sold in Walmart stores in several states.

'This product is past its best if used by date and is no longer in stores, but consumers may have frozen the item for later use,' the FDA notice, dated Dec. 31, 2024, reads. 'Consumers who have this product in their freezers should not consume and discard the product.'Officials discovered the potential for contamination after a random sampling by Texas Health & Human Services from a Texas store location yielded a positive test result for Listeria monocytogenes, bacteria that causes Listeria infection. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection to the product, the FDA said. Listeria infection can be deadly for older Americans, pregnant women and consumers with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis sufferers can experience symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, headache, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. The recalled Marketside Broccoli Florets sold at Walmart have the UPC code 6 81131 32884 5 on the back of the bag, and Lot Code BFFG327A6 on the front of the bag. The recalled product was sold at Walmart stores in the following states: Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. The FDA’s notice added that the recall does not apply to any other Marketside or Braga Fresh-produced products
