A handful of climbing areas in Boulder Canyon have reopened for activities after they were closed due to annual golden eagle nesting

The Blob Rock, East Blob Rock, Bitty Buttress and Security Risk climbing areas close temporarily every year so the eagles can choose nest sites undisturbed, but they have now reopened to the public. However, the Eagle Rock area will stay closed through July 31.

The Boulder Ranger District monitors nesting progress alongside the Boulder Climbing Community and the Access Fund, and the organizations also stress the crucial importance for the eagles to have space to raise their young. “It is vital that visitors stay away from the nesting area as previous incursions have led to failed nests,” a news release stated.
