Many offices in downtown Boston remain mostly empty, even though the city has eliminated its pandemic restrictions on businesses. Now, the city is trying to entice remote workers to come back.

Boston has lifted all its pandemic restrictions on businesses — but many office workers have yet to return downtown, making it hard for many local vendors to survive. Dieter said she started working in person at her downtown office again in February. But she thinks it will take more than free coffee and other perks to draw all the people back.
"We go to lunch all the time around here, and it’s been a bummer to see some of the places struggling where you’re usually seeing lines out the door," he said.Democracy was once a popular spot for drinks after work. But co-founder James Razsa said the office workers have yet to come back in large numbers. Instead, they’ve mostly seen tourists and other visitors.
Razsa said he’s also happy for all the bars, cafes and restaurants that have managed to survive so far.
