But the America that I found myself working in had changed in many ways since I had started in politics in the 1970s, and even in the short time since I'd left the White House. Two Americas were emerging with very different stories. One believes that our diversity makes us stronger, and better able to achieve shared prosperity through shared opportunities and responsibilities and equal treatment in our local, state, and national communities.
