A staff member at Bogan Elementary School has resigned after being accused of making physical contact with a student. The district planned to fire the employee but they resigned before a hearing could take place.
A staff member at Bogan Elementary School in the Talawanda School District has resigned following allegations of making physical contact with a student. The employee was placed on administrative leave and removed from the school immediately after the allegations surfaced, according to district officials. The district had planned to pursue termination of the employee at a disciplinary hearing, but the staff member resigned before the hearing could take place.
The district stated that the employee is now in police custody. Talawanda School District emphasized its stance against inappropriate or excessive physical contact with students. The district assured that it will continue to report information regarding the incident to the necessary authorities. A criminal complaint from the Butler County Sheriff's Office filed on Dec. 18 identified the employee as Heather Keller and accused her of abusing a 'mentally handicapped child under twenty-one years of age.' Keller allegedly 'grabbed the victim multiple times by the face and neck area and pushed his head into the back of his wheelchair' on Dec. 12, according to the complaint. She also allegedly flicked the boy in his face and 'pulled his left arm across his face and under his chin while applying pressure with both of her arms.'The complaint also said that the child did not suffer serious injuries
