Boerne’s water supply tested above the federal limit for a toxic chemical earlier this year, but the city says it is addressing the situation and the water is safe to drink. In a notice sent to residents on Sept. 25 and posted on the city's website, Boerne Utilities said it was notified by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality that tests showed the city's drinking water exceeded the state limit for total trihalomethanes, which are volatile organic compounds.
Hill Country news roundup: Boerne lands millions to hire firefighters “This is equivalent to being over the limit by three parts per billion,” the city said. “For comparison, three parts per billion is equal to three drops of water in an Olympic-size swimming pool.” The city said the increase in the chemicals happened after the city reduced the amount of groundwater it pumped during the summer drought conditions.
