The Boerne All-Stars jumped out to an early 4-0 lead but faltered late in a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Lake Mary, Fla.
SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT , Pa. — With the finish line in sight, the Boerne All-Stars simply ran out of gas. Twice. Southeast Region champion Lake Mary , Fla ., scored nine times over the final two innings Saturday to ruin Boerne’s perfect record and its championship dreams with a 10-7 victory in the Little League Baseball World Series before an announced crowd of 27,989 at Lamade Stadium . Lake Mary won the U.S. championship and with it a berth in the world title game scheduled for 2 p.m.
Boerne kept working Feliciano over the next two innings while Hurst settled in to carry the no-hitter through the midpoint in the game. Hurst needed just five pitches in the second inning, getting two outs on the first two pitches, then a three-pitch strikeout. He got rolling from throw, throwing 11 straight strikes and fanning four batters in a row. Boerne kept the pressure on and scored two runs each in the second and third innings.
