Different strategies lead Boerne, Lake Mary to rematch for U.S. title at Little League World Series
SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT , Pa. – Justin Newson and Jonathan Anderson have shown that there is more than one way to manage a team to the U.S. championship game of the Little League Baseball World Series. Newson has taken the standard thought of “one game at a time” and extended it beyond a coaching motto designed to improve concentration on the task at hand and made it into a strategical component of navigating multi-round tournaments.
In Boerne, all hearts belong to a Little League baseball team Within minutes of Monday’s 4-1 loss to Boerne, Anderson was pointing past three opponents and talking about the potential rematch with Boerne for a spot in Sunday’s world championship game. Still, his team got its rematch. Lake Mary will take aim at Boerne for the second time when the teams meet at Lamade Stadium Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Mogford makes most of second chance, helps Boerne advance in LLWS At that point, Lake Mary needed two wins to get to Thursday and a third straight win then while playing for the fourth straight day in order to get into Saturday’s matchup. “We’re in a pretty good position,” Anderson said at the time, pointing out that he had managed to save more pitching than Metro Region champion Staten Island, N.Y., his next opponent. “I think we’ve got arms to work our way back,” he said.
