The firings come a day after the Blue Jackets won at Utah, 3-2, to prevent an 0-4 road trip. But Columbus sits in last place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 19-19-7 and 45 points. They are seven points out of a playoff spot.

Evason had been hired as head coach prior to the 2024-25 season and led one of the biggest surprises in the NHL. I also want to thank Steve for his commitment to our club over the past five years.” The 70-year-old Bowness has had multiple stops as a head coach, most recently coaching the Stars from 2019-20 to 2021-22, and the Jets from 22-23 to 23-24.
