Kameron L. Hymes, 27, was injured in the May 21 shootout, where he killed Zauhnteen Jackson, 21, according to police.
Updated: Jun. 13, 2024, 7:04 a.m.Courtesy of Dauphin County PrisonThe man who killed a father of four in a Harrisburg mass shooting last month was also one of the people who officers found injured at the crime scene, police wrote in court documents filed this week.
Officers responding to the shooting later found Hymes inside the taped-off crime scene. He was wearing a “Kill Bill” jersey and told officers he’d been shot, according to the affidavit. Court documents said multiple pieces of forensic evidence were recovered at the home, including blood and spent shell casings. Behind the home, officers also found a discarded green sweatshirt they said Zauhnteen Jackson’s killer was wearing at the time shots were fired. The following day, May 23, police obtained surveillance footage that showed an unmasked Hymes walking out from behind the South 15th Street home where the sweatshirt was found.
Hymes is barred from carrying a gun because of a 2018 conviction in his hometown of Culpeper, Virginia, for burglary with the intent to murder and/or rape, court documents said. He has previously been accused of violent crimes including robbery and kidnapping in at least two other states. In February 2020, while charges related to the shooting were still pending, Hymes was accused of kidnapping a woman and holding her against her will for more than 14 hours in Martinsburg, West Virginia,The Journal, citing court documents, said Martinsburg police were asked to do a welfare check at an apartment after the woman texted someone asking for help. Officers forced their way into the home after no one answered the door.
