The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. on the 200 block of South Street, the communications director for Harrisburg said in a statement Sunday morning.
A man was shot and killed by police in downtown Harrisburg early Sunday morning after police say he opened fire on them.
According to a statement provided by city spokesman Matt Maisel, a Harrisburg city officer and a PA Capitol Police officer — along with that officer’s dog — were chasing a man around 1:30 a.m. on the 200 block of South Street. The man fired multiple gunshots at officers, who returned fire and killed the 22-year-old, according to the statement. It was not immediately clear why the officers were trying to apprehend the man or why he fled.The Dauphin County Criminal Investigation Division, which is part of the county district attorney’s office, is investigating the shooting.
