A Birmingham carjacking victim is fighting for his life at UAB Hospital after fatally shooting a suspect Wednesday night at an apartment complex, police said.

East Precinct officers were called to the 700 block of Springville Road just before 8 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a person shot at the Springville Landing apartments, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.As a second group of patrol officers headed to the scene, they were flagged about a second person down from gunfire in grassy area, also in the 700 block of Springville Road.
